Therapeutic Recreation services for persons with dementia
Free initial consultation, $35/hour (including assessment fee), 2 hour minimum
This service is helpful for seniors, living at home or in a care facility, whose health concerns due to dementia and/or physical ailments are preventing them from doing the things they enjoy. They need support to spend their time engaged in more meaningful activities.
Our service is different from others in that we dedicate our service only to seniors. All of our therapists are registered and follow guidelines set out by TRO, our professional association, and have years of experience working with seniors with dementia. The therapist will work with the client and family members to first complete an assessment, which helps us determine the strength, needs and interests of the client. The results of the assessment help form our treatment plan which is custom tailored for each client. Documentation is provided. Caregivers are not required to stay during the session. Heres an example of what we can provide:
horticulture, aromatherapy and music for sensory stimulation
word games and reminiscence programs to enhance cognitive functioning
accompany client to community programs to reduce social isolation and develop friendships
arts and crafts for creative expression and to promote fine and gross motor skills
yoga for stress management, and relaxation
physical activity such as walking and chair exercises to help build muscle strength and reduce risk for injury and pain
activities specifically designed for Alzheimer’s or dementia care.
