State of the art assessment including special views MRI and SPECT brain scans. Management is of root cause(s) including multiple health conditions such as hypertension, cholesterol, diabetes, sleep apnea, depression, anxiety, obesity, as well as life style issues of diet and exercise; and not just the prescription of palliative Alzheimer drugs as is conventional practice at most memory clinics. Patients and their families are treated and supported over the long term, not just diagnosed then sent back to their family doctors. Expertise is given from Internal Medicine, Geriatric Medicine, Endocrinology and Metabolism. (Did you know that 80% of those with age-related Alzheimer’s have Type 2 Diabetes or Pre-Diabetes?) In person Clinic visits, Family Counselling, and Mental Health counselling is on site. A Zoom exercise program is available from our Clinic during COVID19 times.
Clinic is not accessible to sick people. All are screened before entry. People with cell phones are asked to wait either in their cars or with masks on, in the lobby. Entry to clinic is at scheduled appointment time. Physical distancing is maintained at all times. Clinic has Hepa-filter air filtration, and sanitized between each patient.
People of all ages concerned about developing Alzheimer’s. This usually happens when one has had a parent who has Alzheimer’s or when one is experiencing some decline in their own short term memory.
Each person will be assessed for risk and those at risk will be offered prevention treatment for their specific modifiable risk factors.
This is a unique memory clinic. We pride ourselves in the halting of and even some reversal of mild cognitive impairment and mild stage age-related Alzheimer's. Therefore, the earlier an assessment and treatment is initiated the better, before big problems occur.
